  • BOSaNOVA Adds Encryption to Thin Clients

    February 26, 2008 Alex Woodie

BOSaNOVA last week announced that it has added SSL encryption capabilities to the 5250 emulation running on its thin clients. The technology was added to help customers comply with the Payment Cardholder Industry (PCI) mandates, according to the company, which has been moving strongly into the IT security arena over the last year.

Twin-ax controllers were once a big part of BOSaNOVA’s business. But today, you’re more likely to call the Phoenix, Arizona, company to beef up your IT security than you are to squeeze more life out of your aging SNA architecture.

A year ago, the company started down the security path with the roll-out of the Q3 line of encryption appliances. Last April, it signed up with Raz-Lee to sell its line of i5/OS security software. Then in October, BOSaNOVA joined the PCI Security Vendor Alliance, an industry group composed of companies interested in PCI compliance.

Somewhere along the line, the company also added SSL encryption to its 5250 emulation software, which it preloads onto its Windows- and Linux-based thin client computers. While the company has offered SSL encryption for months, it just announced it last week.

Demand for SSL encryption is high, says BOSaNOVA president Martin Pladgeman. “We’ve had companies come to us under the gun looking for SSL support for 5250 on their thin clients to meet PCI compliance audits. We are known for providing the best emulation available, therefore offering SSL for 5250 on our thin client units was a no-brainer.”

SSL encryption is included on all BOSaNOVA thin clients. For more information, visit www.bosanova.net.
