NSPI Launches CBU as a Service Offering

The IT consultancy NSPI recently announced “System i CBU as a Service,” a new offering that enables System i shops to park their low-priced Capacity Backup (CBU) System i servers in NSPI’s data center, where they will be synchronized with data from their primary server, and be kept ready for the customer to access in the event of a disaster. From its headquarters in Roswell, Georgia, NSPI provides a variety of technical services for its customers, with specialties ranging from System i services, Microsoft, VMware, Hewlett-Packard, and Cisco Systems. The company also runs three data centers, according to its Web site. In October 2007, the company announced System i CBU as a Service, a new offering that marries the power of low-cost CBU hardware, affordable high availability software, a dedicated spot in NSPI’s SAS70 Type II data center, and NSPI’s expertise in managing i systems. While details are a bit sketchy at this time, it appears that NSPI will be using the iTera HA high availability software from Vision Solutions, considering the relationships that some NSPI representatives have with the product. The new offering is most beneficial to smaller companies, says Scott Johnson, NSPI’s iSeries practice manager. “Providing a total solution, including the remote hosting and System i monitoring, is especially huge for the small and medium sized businesses that might not have a hardened, secure, secondary facility, or the staffing to support” the secondary system. NSPI re-announced the new offering in January, and is expected to share success stories of the new service with IT Jungle soon.
