  • Love’s Likes CCSS for PCi

    May 27, 2008 Alex Woodie

Love’s Travel Stops and Country Stores has selected CCSS‘ system management tools for i (formerly i5/OS) to help it comply with a regulatory mandate. With QMessage Monitor keeping track of events occurring in the company’s audit journal, IT professionals feel confident that they have their bases covered when it comes to PCI compliance.

Since it was founded in 1964, Love’s has been making a name for itself with its chain of locations across the country, which now number 210 in 33 states. At each Love’s location, travelers have access to a gas station, a convenience store, a gift shop, and a fast food restaurant, helping them to rest, fill up, and get back out on the road. Powering this network of stations is the mighty little System i Model 515, which processes hundreds of thousand of transactions a year for the $7-billion-a-year business.

With that volume of money changing hands, ensuring compliance with the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard (DSS) mandate was a top priority for Love’s, especially considering the fact that many transactions at travel stops involve credit cards.

“We knew that we wanted a solution that was very easy to use and would offer unequivocal data reports that would satisfy the PCI auditors,” says Tommy Sellers, a systems manager for Love’s. “Upon evaluation with other solutions, QMessage Monitor had a far stronger offering for our requirements.”

Love’s uses QMessage Monitor to keep track of their System i’s audit journal, which tracks each credit card transaction for compliance with PCI. With QMessage Monitor, Sellers has a way to filter out the vast majority of transactions, which are normal, and identify the few transactions that raise red flags.

“In the evaluation process this was the only solution that produced a report that goes into my spool file that I can save and quickly glance at each day,” Seller says. “I also have the option of real-time monitoring of these important journals from my desktop and receiving alerts should any out of the ordinary situations occur.”
