  • Manufacturer’s JDE System to Be Extended with SM-Plus

    May 27, 2008 Alex Woodie

Terumo Cardiovascular Systems (CVS), a manufacturer of products used during heart surgery, has adopted Single Source Systems‘ Service Management-Plus (SM-Plus) asset management system to replace an obsolete AS/400-based service management system, the vendor announced recently.

Terumo CVS develops and manufactures medical devices for the global cardiac surgery market, including Vascutek vascular grafts, monitoring devices, heart-lung machines, and other precision tools. The company, which is a subsidiary of the Japanese conglomerate Terumo, has locations in Michigan, Maryland, and California, and utilizes Oracle‘s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne ERP system to manage various aspects of its business.

Up until recently, Terumo CVS used an AS/400-based service management system to keep track of service operations, such as the company’s 24-hour product support helpline, technician scheduling, mobile field service, dispatching, depot repair, service contracts, preventive maintenance, service parts, and returned goods authorizations.

However, that AS/400-based system is no longer supported, which put Terumo CVS in a bind. “With our existing AS/400 service system no longer being supported, it was critical that we found a solution that would not only meet all of our service management needs but also integrate with our JD Edwards ERP system to improve financial controls and ensure FDA quality system compliance,” says Stephen Wells, director of service for Terumo CVS.

The company found a product with SM-Plus, which is developed by Single Source Systems of Indianapolis, Indiana. The software package, which is based in Microsoft .NET, will use SM-Plus to keep track of all service operations previously handled by the old AS/400 system. “We are very pleased to have Terumo CVS as a service business software customer and proud to partner in their continued success,” says Tony Petrucciani, CEO of Single Source.
