  • New President Onboard at BluePhoenix

    August 11, 2008 Dan Burger

BluePhoenix Solutions has hired Yaron Tchwella as president of the application migration, rehosting, and renewal company. Tchwella is a 25-year veteran of the high technology industry with experience managing global organizations.

BluePhoenix, based in Herzliya, Israel, is a legacy application modernization tool maker with products to address midrange and mainframe systems. The company entered the System i market during the summer of 2007 when it acquired ASNA, a software company with more than 25 years in the AS/400, iSeries, and System i business. ASNA specializes in tools that move RPG applications to Windows and .NET. The San Antonio, Texas-based ASNA has been one component of BluePhoenix’s growth in recent quarters. BluePhoenix had its own line of modernization tools for mainframe applications before it acquired ASNA.

Prior to joining BluePhoenix, Tchwella served from 2007 to 2008 as president of Comverse, a services-oriented company for the largest global telecommunication companies. During his 11 years at Comverse, he also served as president of the messaging division and was a member of the executive management team. Before joining Comverse, he held engineering and managerial positions during a 13-year period at Advanced Technology, a company now known as Ness Technology, a services company that specializes in outsourcing, system integration, application development and consulting, and software distribution.

At BluePhoenix, Tchwella will handle the overall activities of the company while working with Arik Kilman, chief executive officer at BluePhoenix. Kilman will focus on strategic customers and alliances, merger and acquisition activity, and the company’s long-term strategic direction. Commenting on the new president, Kilman described Tchwella as “an experienced executive with a proven track record in transforming vision and strategy into business results.” Kilman also said the hire will “significantly strengthen” BluePhoenix by augmenting plans for company growth and adding global company expertise.
