  • XAware Boasts More Than 150,000 Downloads

    August 19, 2008 Alex Woodie

More than 150,000 developers and designers have registered to download the latest release of XAware‘s graphical open source data integration software, the company recently announced. Along with the user update, XAware unveiled version 5.1 of its software, which delivers XML and DB2 enhancements, among other features.

XAware has been riding the open source software wave since it started allowing anybody to license its software for free under the GPL in November 2007. Since then, the company has been creating a niche for itself at SourceForge, the popular repository for open source development projects, and an online community for developers.

With its capability to build data integration views that span and connect multiple operating systems and data access methods–or data integration services for Rich Internet Applications (and even i OS applications) if you will–XAware has piqued the interest of developers and integrators. Since the launch of XAware version 5 in March, it has become the 82nd most active project on Sourceforge.

From the sound of things, Kirstan Vandersluis, a co-founder and the chief scientist of XAware, is enjoying the Sourceforge project. “The exceptional download rate and enthusiastic community involvement in the early months of the XAware project have been very gratifying,” he says.

The warm Sourceforge reception led to many of the new features in version 5.1, as well as bug fixes in previous versions. “Community participation is essential to building robust open source software, and we constantly receive invaluable insight from our users,” Vandersluis says.

The new features in version 5.1 include enhanced text processing; better support for REST operation creation and testing; enhanced XML schema management and validation; improved support for MySQL and DB2 stored procedures; and a new JMX BizComponent feature for better monitoring control.

XAware is available under open source and commercial licenses. For more information on XAware, visit www.xaware.com.
