System i shops that need to send faxes from their AS/400 but don’t want to install a dedicated line were given another option last week when Kisco Information Systems announced that the latest release of its WebReport/400 product now bears an integrated connection to MetroFax‘s Internet-based fax service, enabling users to quickly and easily send spool files as faxes.
WebReport/400 is a versatile utility that allows AS/400 and IBM i shops to make more effective use of the spool files and reports generated by their applications. The software can be used interactively to e-mail or FTP spool files that it has converted into PDF, Excel, or other formats. Alternatively, it can work automatically using monitored output queues, or its functions can be embedded directly into existing applications.
Thanks to a partnership with MetroFax, Kisco is adding fax as another output mechanism with WebReport/400 version 10. The function works by taking standard report spool files and converting them into an e-mail format that works easily with the MetroFax service. No additional software is required, and the cost of the service is typically less than the cost of adding another phone line, Kisco says.
MetroFax is a Bellevue, Washington, company that has made a business out of connecting various document types with fax technology. The company’s fax service starts at about $13 per month for 1,000 inbound and outbound faxes; additional faxes cost $.03 each.
In addition to support for MetroFax, WebReport/400 version 10 brings several other enhancements, including better Excel conversion accuracy; improved activity logging; better security (differentiation of users and administrators); new batch processing options; new AFP color overlay options, and improved splitting of PDF conversions involving AFP overlays.
WebReport/400 version 10 is available now. Pricing starts at $1,795. For more information, visit www.kisco.com.
