  • Vision Offers Web-Based Training for HA

    June 2, 2009 Alex Woodie

Vision Solutions yesterday announced that it is offering training for its high availability products over the Web. The new Web-based training will allow customers to learn how to use iTera HA, MIMIX HA, ORION HA, and other products, either at their own pace or with the help of an instructor.

Vision Solutions University has added a handful of Web-based training courses to its catalog. There are currently 14 self-paced courses that users can access over the Web, ranging from basic MIMIX operations to how iTera HA uses journaling. Each class costs between $150 and $250, and users can get discounts when they purchase several classes at once.

Vision will add more self-paced training sessions in the future, including training sessions focusing on general HA software implementation and administration and general IBM i high availability optimization. Although it is listed as a category, there are currently no instructor-led Web courses listed on the Vision Solutions University catalog, which is located at www.syberworks.com/vision. A Vision official says instructor-led classes are typically added as the result of a customer request, although not always.

“Vision Solutions’ online training enables customers and business partners to get product education without incurring travel costs associated with offsite training,” Peter Sa, vice president of services for Vision Solutions, says in a press release. He adds: “We focus on specific topics and allow customers to review course material at their own pace.”

One of the first people to take advantage of the new Web-based courses is David Fahrenkrug, iSeries platform manager for APL Logistics, a global logistics service provider based in Oakland, California.

Fahrenkrug cited the tough economic climate as one of the reasons for picking Vision’s Web-based training. “Online education opens the doors for more IT professionals to continue learning,” he says in a press release.

Vision offers traditional classroom training, in addition to Web-based training. Customers who sign up for Vision’s Web-based training before June 30 can get a 20 percent discount off course fees. For more information, visit www.visionsolutions.com/services/Education-Overview.aspx.
