  • VAI Brings Two More Companies Onto the i OS Platform

    June 2, 2009 Alex Woodie

VAI recently announced two new customer wins for S2K Enterprise, its suite of i OS-based ERP software. The two companies moving to S2K include NAFECO, a distributor of firefighting equipment based in Alabama, and Mytel International, an office products distributor and services provider in California.

Mytel International and its sister company, GNM Financial Service, chose the combination of S2K ERP software running on 64-bit IBM Power Systems hardware to replace its previous computer system, which ran on an HP 3000 server–a platform that was killed off years ago by Hewlett-Packard.

“We understood that GNM and Mytel needed a technology solution to replace our aging HP 3000, while providing access to the real-time information required to improve customer service and eliminate our outdated paper tracking system,” says Pam Tucker, IT director for Mytel and GNM, which are based in the L.A. suburb of Culver City, California. “S2K for Distribution has achieved this goal.”

Mytel and GNM also installed VAI’s CRM system on the Power Systems Model 520 that is now managing core IT processes. Tucker says the CRM has put key information “literally at our fingertips,” and “allows us to see and understand all customer interactions in a way that was simply not possible before.”

Also licensing S2K is NAFECO Fire Equipment, one of the country’s largest distributors of gear for firefighters, paramedics, and other public safety personnel. The company has already implemented the software, VAI says.

The Decatur, Alabama, company runs six warehouses in the Southeast, and boasts having the most in-stock inventory of gear of any firefighting equipment dealer. The company even sells and services a variety of fire apparatus, like brush trucks, pumpers, and giant “aeriel” rigs.

The selection of S2K for Distribution ends a two-year search by NAFECO for a new ERP system, says Jeremy Bowling, the company’s systems administrator.

“We were looking for a comprehensive distribution solution to integrate NAFECO’s distribution centers, but also required software to address the company’s light manufacturing,” Bowling says in a press release. “VAI emerged as the best fit after a nearly two-year search process. The S2K solutions are equipped with numerous add-on modules that are easily customizable to meet our evolving needs. Additionally, the competitively priced solutions did not exceed our budget limitations.”
