  • Bytware Updates Anti-Virus to Support Domino 8.5

    June 23, 2009 Alex Woodie

System i shops that rely on Bytware‘s StandGuard Anti-Virus software to protect their i OS and Domino environments from becoming infested with Windows viruses and other pieces of malicious code will be happy to hear that the software vendor now supports Domino 8.5, which was released by IBM last month.

For the last six years, Bytware has been developing and selling StandGuard Anti-Virus for the IBM i (OS/400) platform. While the Power Systems (eServer iSeries) platform is generally regarded to be highly resistant to security threats that commonly afflict the Windows operating system, the i OS server can be a safe haven for Windows malware, thanks to the Windows-like Integrated File System (IFS). Bytware, in combination with IBM and McAfee, developed a native IBM i (OS/400) virus-scanning engine to detect and eliminate malware before it can be distributed to PCs attached to the i (i5) server.

The product has been a big success for Bytware, which in September was sold to the same private equity group, the Audax Group, that owns Help/Systems and PowerTech. Over the years, Bytware has adapted the StandGuardAV platform to support AIX- and Linux-based Power Systems environments. A little more than a year ago, the company rolled out a new StandardGuardAV module that extends the antivirus protection to Lotus Domino.

Now, Bytware is ensuring that Lotus-Domino-on-System-i customers moving up to the latest release won’t be hindered by a lack of support for Domino 8.5. StandGuardAV fully supports the new release of Domino, the company says.

Domino 8.5 users will find the same level of functionality in StandGuardAV that they have used since the module became available last year. That includes dynamic scanning of incoming and outgoing e-mail; on-demand scanning of the Domino database; automatic quarantining of infected e-mail attachments; real-time alerts; automatic updating; user-defined scheduling; and comprehensive logging.

The StandGuardAV for Domino module is an add-on to full StandGuardAV for IBM i product. Both can be purchased together from Bytware.

Get More Out of Your IBM i

With soaring costs, operational data is more critical than ever. IBM shops need faster, easier ways to distribute IBM applications-based data to users more efficiently, no matter where they are.

    The Problem:

For Users, IBM Data Can Be Difficult to Get To

IBM Applications generate reports as spooled files, originally designed to be printed. Often those reports are packed together with so much data it makes them difficult to read. Add to that hardcopy is a pain to distribute. User-friendly formats like Excel and PDF are better, offering sorting, searching, and easy portability but getting IBM reports into these formats can be tricky without the right tools.

    The Solution:

IBM i Reports can easily be converted to easy to read and share formats like Excel and PDF and Delivered by Email

Converting IBM i, iSeries, and AS400 reports into Excel and PDF is now a lot easier with SpoolFlex software by DRV Tech.  If you or your users are still doing this manually, think how much time is wasted dragging and reformatting to make a report readable. How much time would be saved if they were automatically formatted correctly and delivered to one or multiple recipients.

SpoolFlex converts spooled files to Excel and PDF, automatically emailing them, and saving copies to network shared folders. SpoolFlex converts complex reports to Excel, removing unwanted headers, splitting large reports out for individual recipients, and delivering to users whether they are at the office or working from home.

Watch our 2-minute video and see DRV’s powerful SpoolFlex software can solve your file conversion challenges.
