  • SafeData Promotes Managed HA in White Paper

    July 14, 2009 Alex Woodie

The implementation of a high availability solution can be a bumpy road for even the highest skilled System i (Power Systems) professionals. However, without a way to ensure the continuity of computer-based processes during a disaster or outage, the damage to a company’s reputation can be extensive. Managed System i high availability provider SafeData listed six benefits of a managed, or outsourced, HA implementation in a new white paper.

In its new white paper, titled “High Confidence in IBM iSeries High Availability: Six Ways Businesses Can Win Big with High Availability Managed Services,” SafeData makes the case that HA solutions can be cranky and difficult to manage by organizations with traditional System i skills.

The vendor offers six benefits for hiring somebody to run the HA solution. These include protecting the investment in HA, maximizing the benefits of HA, gaining HA expertise, preserving internal IT staff, satisfying investors and owners of the company, and, of course, ensuring business continuity.

SafeData launched its fully managed HA service about a year ago. As part of its program, SafeData takes over all aspects of managing a customer’s iTera HA or MIMIX HA environment (both of which are sold by Vision Solutions), whether they are installed at the customer’s site or live in SafeData’s data center. For a fee ranging from $1,200 to $2,500 per month, SafeData guarantees that the HA environment will be ready for a role swap.

Peter Briggs, president of SafeData, says managed HA is ideal for companies whose IT professionals are very busy and torn in different directions.

“The daily management of a high availability solution for an IBM iSeries environment can be overwhelming and take IT professionals away from more strategic projects,” Briggs says. “By using the managed services model, maintenance and testing responsibilities are left in the hands of an IT services provider and businesses can feel more confident that their high availability system will protect their business from costly downtime.”
