  • Trend Micro Offers Anti Virus for Domino on i5/OS

    August 4, 2009 Alex Woodie

System i shops that are looking for anti virus software to protect their IBM Lotus Domino version 8.5 e-mail environment may want to check out Trend Micro. Last month, the Silicon Valley firm unveiled ScanMail 5.0 for Lotus Domino, which runs on i5/OS, as well as current releases of other major server operating systems.

ScanMail for Lotus Domino provides multiple layers of security protection at the mail server level. The software is designed specifically to protect Domino mail servers against viruses, worms, Trojan horses, spyware, and assorted malware using signature-based and independent detection mechanisms. It also offers content filtering to decrease the likelihood of information leakage, and employs pattern matching and heuristics to detect spam and phishing attempts.

With version 5.0, ScanMail for Lotus Domino has been updated to work with the latest release of Domino, version 8.5. The major milestone here was ensuring that ScanMail is compatible with the 64-bit version of Domino.

Trend Micro’s work with the 64 bit version of Domino impressed IBM executives. “We’re impressed that Trend Micro is the first company to offer this type of support for 64-bit Domino 8.5, allowing IBM customers to reap the full security benefits of our software,” Kevin Cavanaugh, vice president of messaging and collaboration in IBM’s software division, stated in a press release.

The other big new feature in ScanMail for Lotus Domino 5.0 is support for Web reputation, which the company bills as a component of its “Smart Protection Network.” Web reputation analyzes Web traffic for malicious URLs, and blocks malicious links before they get to users, thereby preventing users’ computers from being breached and leading to a bigger security headache.

ScanMail for Lotus Domino 5.0 is available now. On the IBM Power Systems (System i, iSeries, i5, AS/400) platform, the software runs (natively) on i5/OS V5R4 and V5R3. It also runs on Windows, AIX, Solaris, Linux for X86, Linux for zSeries, and z/OS. Pricing starts at about $29 per user for a license for 1,000 users.
