  • Original Software Teams with AppLabs for Software Testing

    August 18, 2009 Alex Woodie

Software testing specialists Original Software and AppLabs have teamed up to sell each other’s products and services, the companies announced last week. The deal brings Original access to AppLabs’ suite of testing services, while it brings AppLabs access to Original’s products, including IBM i application testing software.

Original has strived to help customers move from manual testing processes, which are error-prone and time consuming, to automated solutions that can deliver better software quality. The British company supports all forms of i OS applications, although testing on Web and Windows platforms accounts for a bigger slice of its business.

The automated approach to testing is what attracted AppLabs, one of the biggest providers of testing services for all aspects of enterprise software, to Original. “We’ve spotted a compelling value proposition for our clients with Original Software’s suite,” said Scott Andress, vice president of global alliances and service lines at AppLabs, which maintains offices in Hyderabad, India; London, UK; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In particular, Original sees AppLabs getting good use out of TestDrive-Assist, which allows customers to maintain elements of manual testing as they gradually add more automation to their QA processes. “TestDrive-Assist cuts the time it takes to manually test in half, with some customers having recorded savings of 75 to 80 percent,” says Colin Armitage, Original Software CEO.

In return, Original will be able to tap AppLabs for its expertise. “This partnership not only provides us with a strong route to market, but allows us to add services to our expanding portfolio,” Armitage says. “AppLabs’ expertise in testing services and its global, skilled resource pool will be a valued addition to our offering.”

    JAMS Software

One Scheduler. IBM i, Windows, Linux, and More.

IBM i teams trust JAMS to schedule and orchestrate jobs across every platform in their environment. Centralized visibility, cross-platform dependency management, and alerts that reach the right person before the business feels it.

Fewer than 5% of IBM i shops run IBM i only. The rest are managing cross-platform dependencies — often without a clear picture of how they connect. JAMS draws that map, enforces those dependencies automatically, and gives your team a single place to monitor, manage, and recover when something goes wrong.

If you are running hundreds of CL scripts and custom RPG processes, bring them as-is. JAMS runs them exactly as they do today — except now they are visible, monitored, and part of an orchestrated workflow instead of scattered across folders only one person knows about.

No consumption-based pricing. No surprise bills when your workload spikes. You pay based on how many machines JAMS talks to — that’s it.
