  • Sparxent Issues First Update of XAware Data Integration Tool

    October 13, 2009 Alex Woodie

Sparxent recently announced the release of XAware version 5.4, a new release of its open source, Java-based data integration tool. Notable features in the release include a new data transformation wizard, support for the JSON data format, and support for Max OS X.

XAware is a data integration tool suite that allows users to create reusable logic to move data among disparate systems, including System i, Windows, Unix, and Linux servers. The product, which is composed of an Eclipse plug-in and a server component, promotes a high-level, configuration-based approach to data integration that relies heavily on the reuse of components and the avoidance of low-level programming.

Sparxent, which acquired XAware earlier this year, is confident developers will see greater productivity out of version 5.4, which the company last week announced is now available.

Sparxent says many improvements have been added to speed the design-test-deploy cycle for data services. This includes new wizards that simplify text and file transformations, new plug-ins to Salesforce.com data, and improvements to the XAware library.

Support for JavaScript Object Notation, or JSON, will make it easier to use XAware to keep rich Internet applications (RIAs) updated with data. XAware also includes an XML/JSON converter.

Sparxent also worked on the XAware scripting language for this release. The company says the enhancements will result in faster development, greater flexibility, and increased control over data and business logic.

A beta version of Mac OS X was also made available. A free version of XAware is available via the GPL license at www.xaware.org. Customers can also buy commercial licenses for XAware, starting at $7,595 per server per year. More information is available at www.xaware.com.
