  • Attachmate Begins Delivery of New MFT Tool

    November 10, 2009 Alex Woodie

Attachmate yesterday announced the general availability of FileExpress, the new managed file transfer (MFT) tool for i OS, z/OS, Unix, Linux, and Windows. The software, which Attachmate announced a couple of months ago, allows users to conduct file transfers with the confidence of knowing that encryption, authentication, and auditing is handled by the software.

Attachmate picked well when it selected Proginet to partner with for its new MFT product. As an OEM version of Proginet’s CyberFusion Integration (CFI) suite, FileExpress builds on a proven product with a good reputation.

In its recent Magic Quadrant on the MFT space, Proginet was listed in the leader’s quadrant, along with several other vendors. Attachmate is also in good company with Proginet, as Beta Systems, Inovis, and Software AG also have OEM agreements for CFI.

Now Attachmate will try its hand at marketing an MFT product to its vast base of more than 65,000 customers. “We have customers in multiple industries around the world and they all perform file transfers every day,” Eric Varness, vice president of marketing for Attachmate, says. “Regardless if it is in government, health care, financial services or manufacturing, FileXpress will enable our customers to save time and money by automating routine data transfer tasks and easily integrating into a multi-platform network.”

It is a good time to be in the MFT business, with an expected growth rate of more than 25 percent a year, according to Gartner. And with its proprietary protocol, support for file-offloading, and support for installation on the IBM System i server (as opposed to merely supporting the movement of files to and from the box), CFI and FileExpress should be in consideration for any AS/400 shop’s MFT agenda.
