  • Vegas Casino Doesn’t Gamble with Software from Agilysys

    November 17, 2009 Alex Woodie

It’s a well-known fact in the AS/400 community that most of the biggest casinos in Las Vegas rely on IBM i OS servers to power their critical business applications. So it should come as no surprise that South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa, a Vegas property that opened in 2005, has selected i OS software from Agilysys to streamline operations.

Located on 60 acres in southwest Las Vegas, South Point is unique among casino properties. Like many Vegas casinos, it operates thousands of rooms, a huge casino floor, half-a-dozen restaurants, and various other amenities. What sets South Point apart is its equestrian complex, with 1,200 indoor horse stalls and a 4,400 seat arena, making the casino as comfortable for horses as it is for people.

But when it came to technology for hotel operations, there was no horsing around for South Point. As its technological foundation, it went with the proven Lodging Management System (LMS), which helps to automate everything from reservations and credit card processing to accounting and housekeeping. LMS, which runs exclusively on the System i server, is used by 17 of the 20 largest casinos in Vegas and 19 of the world’s 20 largest hotels, according to Agilysys.

Surrounding LMS are DataMagine, a Windows-based document management system, and Guest eMarketing, which will help South Point create and execute personalized e-mail marketing campaigns. The casino was already using InfoGenesis, the Windows-based point of sale (POS) system that Agilysys acquired in 2007 for $90 million.

South Point selected several additional DataMagine modules, including the driver’s license and passport scanning module to ensure proof of identity, the report archive module to streamline recordkeeping, and the signature capture module to digitally capture guest signatures upon check-in.

“We needed technology designed to handle a busy hotel and casino operation,” said Kim Kane, revenue and reservation director for South Point. “The Agilysys portfolio met all of our criteria, with user-friendly systems that are easy to integrate with other applications, such as player tracking and financial management.”
