  • Jordache Pegs Warehouse Efficiency Hopes on Psion Teklogix Handhelds

    November 30, 2010 Alex Woodie

Jeans-maker Jordache Enterprise, which is looking to recreate the hold it had on fashion in the 1980s, turned to 21st century technology recently when it adopted handheld barcode scanning computers from Psion Teklogix to improve the efficiency of workers at its largest warehouse.

Like many companies in the apparel business, New York City-based Jordache relies on IBM Power Systems servers to automate key business functions, such as the coming and going of raw and finished goods. In July 2009, it was announced that the company adopted the IBM i-based ERP software from RLM Apparel Software Systems of Lyndhurst, New Jersey, to handle everything from order management and manufacturing to shipping and the general ledger.

Earlier this month, system integrator Millenium Technologies revealed that it has supplied Jordache with new Psion Teklogix handheld devices to streamline the picking, packing, and receiving processes in its largest warehouse.

Ezri Silver, vice president of logistics and purchasing at Jordache, says the new handhelds have become a key part of warehouse activities. “Millennium recommended the Psion 7535 for our iSeries connectivity, and we could not be happier with the functionality, scalability, and ease-of-use of these devices,” Silver states in a press release. The devices allow “our staff to populate real-time information into our existing ERP, which is immediately accessible throughout the enterprise, globally.”

The Psion 7535 features 520 Mhz XScale processors, offers 128 MB of RAM (in addition to two memory-card clots), and runs the Windows CE 5.0 operating system. It features a color touch screen, built-in Bluetooth and Wifi wireless connectivity, and offers an array of software, including the IE Web browser and Psion Teklogix’s own Open TekTerm terminal emulation software for 5250, 3270, and HP 2392.
