Superior Bulk Logistics Taps UNIT4 CODA for Financials

Superior Bulk Logistics, an Oak Brook, Illinois-based trucking company, has licensed the Coda Financials package from UNIT4 CODA, the software company announced last week. The trucking company was looking for an IBM i-based accounting system that was flexible enough to be used by each of its divisions.

Superior Bulk Logistics operates four divisions, each of which provides a different service, including transporting hazardous and non-hazardous materials, food- and non-food grade materials, and liquids and dry bulk products. A fourth division focuses on cleaning and sanitizing the trucks of the other divisions.

Donna Hudson, an accounting manager for Superior Bulk, explains that the company was looking for a comprehensive financial package that could handle complex accounting across multiple subsidiaries. The company also wanted something that would “maximize our IBM AS/400 systems and applications,” and integrate with other data sources for financial and operational reporting, she says in a press release.

“After evaluating several industry offerings, such as those offered by JD Edwards, Microsoft and others, we realized that Coda Financials knocked it out of the park,” she says. Specifically, Hudson cited Coda Financial’s single financial model, its real-time reporting, and its multidimensional analysis as three “standout features.”

Superior Bulk is not the first trucking company, nor the first AS/400 shop, to license the Coda Financials. “Today, more than 200 of the world’s leading transportation and logistics companies rely on our best-of-class Coda Financials global accounting solution,” says UNIT4 CODA CEO Steve Pugh in a press release.

Coda Financials is developed in Java, and runs natively on the IBM i operating system. The Coda group was bought by the Dutch software firm UNIT 4 about two years ago. The Coda group is based in Manchester, New Hampshire.
