  • Help Fund the Al Barsa Memorial Scholarship

    November 14, 2011 Jenny Thomas

The Al Barsa Memorial Scholarship, created in 2008 to honor the beloved advocate of the AS/400 platform, is looking to up donations with a challenge grant.

The challenge grant is sponsored by midrange.com, which has pledged to contribute a dollar for every dollar contributed by other people (up to a maximum of $300). The challenge will count for any donations made between now and December 24.

Contributions should be made directly to the COMMON Education Foundation here. Midrange.com needs your help tracking the donations, so after you make your contribution, please email midrange.com owner, David Gibbs, here, and tell him the amount so he can ensure his company matched the donation.

The 2010 challenge grant raised $1,260 in donations with an additional $1,600 in matching grants for a total of $2,860. This time, Gibbs says he has lined up additional contributors to the matching grant fund.

“If we can get $1,000 in contributions from the community, the matching grantors will contribute an additional $2,600,” Gibbs said.

The winner of the Al Barsa Memorial Scholarship receives registration to the annual COMMON conference and a commemorative plaque. Any current COMMON member is eligible, and the selection board says they are looking for the person “who exemplifies Al’s commitment and dedication to the i community.” Candidates may nominate themselves or may be nominated by another individual here.

Donations are tax deductible, and a good way to help the i community.
