  • Going Mobile With Power Systems Feeds And Speeds

December 3, 2012 Timothy Prickett Morgan

If you want to get your hands on the slots and watts and feeds and speeds of the Power Systems line, it turns out that there’s an app for that. And it doesn’t run on just Apple smartphones, either.

It is called the Power Systems Quick Reference mobile app, and it was created by Velti, a mobile marketing company founded in 2000 in Greece.

The Power Systems quick reference app comes in three versions: One for the Blackberry, one for the Apple iOS smartphone, and one for Android smartphones. I downloaded the app from the Google Play app catalog for my crusty and trusty original Motorola Droid phone, and aside from the fact that the app said “Prickett Morgan” was not a “valid IBM-STG last name” it seemed to work fine.

And let’s just stop right there for a second. Lemme get this straight. IBM freaking Systems and Technology freaking Group, is telling me what a proper name is for something and what is not? That is just so rich . . . . I could hurt myself laughing.

I went with Morgan, because STG has figured out that I am, indeed, a prick. Technically, it is Prickett, which is middle English for a young buck with spikey horns. (You can’t make the good stuff up.) Morgan is Welsh for by the sea, so technically, I am Beach Buck.

Anyway, back to the Power Systems app. Aside from my ancient Droid being old and the interface being a little bit imprecise, it seemed to work fine. So the next time you are standing in line somewhere, you can check out some feeds, speeds, and cases studies repurposed from IBM’s web site. Or, you could just read the latest edition of The Four Hundred from your browser. That takes a lot less effort and will keep you just as current.
