  • Accessing Multiple DB2 Relational Databases In A Single Query

    August 8, 2012 Michael Sansoterra

In my prior tip, I covered a new feature provided in the i7.1 technology refresh 4 update that allows a INSERT/SELECT statement to insert data into a local DB2 for i table from a query against a remote DB2 database. In this tip, I will cover a method that can be used to query multiple DB2 relational databases in a single statement.

Author’s Note: Incidentally, the remote DB2 database can be another member of the DB2 family besides DB2 for i. Check out my article on DB2 for Windows for more information.

As I mentioned in my last tip

  • $2 Billion Manufacturer Standardizes on Infor iEnterprise

    August 7, 2012 Alex Woodie

Infor‘s IBM i development group got a shot in the arm recently when A. Schulman, an Ohio-based manufacturer of plastic compounds and resins, decided to standardize its global operations on Infor10 ERP iEnterprise (LX), the application formerly known as BPCS.

Infor doesn’t get a lot of respect from mainstream analysts, who seem loathe to mention the ERP software giant in the same breath as rivals SAP and Oracle. Even Microsoft, which can’t match Infor in terms of enterprise application revenue or installed base, gets more love than poor Infor. Infor’s applications, goes the thinking, make good second-tier

Krengeltech last week announced that it has entered into a partnership with Lorton Data to provide Krengel’s DocuMailer software customers with cloud-based postal data automation solutions that help them qualify for bulk-mail savings by the USPS.

    August 7, 2012 Alex Woodie

Users and applications won’t have to wait as long to pull up data that’s been protected with Liaison Technologies‘ Token Manager, thanks to performance enhancements built into the latest release. The Atlanta, Georgia, company says that version 2.2, which was unveiled last week, features administrative enhancements as well.

Kisco introduced SNDTWEET more than three years ago to provide systems administrators with a handy way to monitor their IBM i servers. • TEMBO Sets Out to Save IBM i with Database Modernization

    August 7, 2012 Alex Woodie

Marinus Van Sandwyk and his colleagues at TEMBO Technology Lab are determined to save the IBM i platform. It may sound farfetched on its surface. After all, isn’t that IBM‘s job? But when you hear what Van Sandwyk has to say about the real limitations of the platform (i.e. its legacy ISAM database engine) and the potential solution (get thee to the SQL), you start to think he’s on to something.

The user interface is widely blamed for being the biggest problem in the IBM i world. Few people want to work on a text-base, green-screen interface, and fewer
