  • Original Software Tackles ERP Installations and Upgrades

    August 13, 2013 Alex Woodie

Original Software, a developer of software test utilities for IBM i and other platforms, last week announced the introduction of a new technology that it says will help reduce the amount of time required for an ERP upgrade by 30 percent.

Original calls the new technology Animation, and it does exactly that. It creates animated recordings of a user performing a task in an ERP system. Recording the execution of business processes is useful in the context of ERP upgrades because it allows anybody with a PC to understand the exact functionality at issue.

This animated approach also streamlines the requirements gathering process for developing, testing, training, and supporting complex ERP applications, and reduces the need to have specialized IT experts available whenever a question about ERP functionality comes up.

“Animations are the quickest and clearest way to understand a process because they mimic a user interacting with the application,” Original Software CEO Colin Armitage says in a press release.

Original is selling the Animation technology as part of a larger package that targets Oracle E-Business Suite customers. The package includes a quality management platform, manual testing, test automation, database testing, and a library of pre-defined test cases for Oracle E-Business Suite R12.

In July, Original launched Qualify Web, a new Web browser-based version of its application quality management platform that serves as a repository for test assets, such as test plans and scripts, while also providing workflow for the management of tasks and dashboards for viewing information about project status.

Original says giving this product a Web interface gives all stakeholders in the testing process–including project managers, QA teams, business users, and executives–better visibility into the status of ERP and related activities.

Original continues to deliver testing tools for the IBM i platform with TestBench and other tools, but has evolved over the years to deliver testing tools that support a diverse range of platforms. For more info on Animation or Qualify Web, see www.origsoft.com.
