  • HiT Updates IBM i Database Drivers for Windows

    April 15, 2014 Alex Woodie

HiT Software is now supporting the latest releases of Microsoft Windows, Windows Server, SQL Server, and Office apps with its ODBC/400 and OLEDB/400 database drivers that provide Windows apps with access to the IBM i OS’s DB2/400 database. The company, which is a subsidiary of BackOffice Associates, also shipped a new release of its flagship DBMoto data replication tool.

ODBC/400 and OLEDB/400 are Windows-based drivers that allow Windows-based applications to access, retrieve, and update the DB2/400 (DB2 for i) database. The software is used by third-party vendors and in-house developers, and provides a high speed alternative to the drivers from IBM.

The list of new features is identical for HiT’s ODBC/400 version 10.0 and OLEDB/400 version 6.0. That list includes support for Windows 8, SQL Server 2012 Data Tools, Windows Server 2012, and Office 2010 and 2013 applications.

HiT also added new X64-compliant APIs to the new versions of ODBC/400 and OLEDB/400, as well as the capability to store frequently used SQL statements for increased efficiency in data access. Lastly, the new releases bring better support for Japanese and Hebrew/Arabic language conversions.

In other news, the company issued the version 8.2 release of DBMoto, its full-featured data replication tool for DB2/400 and most other relational database platforms. With version 8.2, the company has added change data capture (CDC) support for SAP‘s Sybase IQ analytics server database and Oracle‘s 12c database.

This will allow an organization to update data in real time from, say, a DB2/400 system to a Sybase IQ system, perhaps for performing big data analytics on the SAP system. For Oracle, HiT is enabling DBMoto customers to access 12c as a multitenant container database (CDB) with zero, one, or many customer-created pluggable databases (PDBs), the company says.
