  • CloudFax/400 Licenses Free Through End of Month

    June 17, 2014 Alex Woodie

International Presence is giving away copies of its CloudFax/400 offering to IBM i customers as part of a promotional deal that ends June 30. The software, which normally costs $2,500 for a P05 machine, is a fax over IP (FoIP) offering that allows customers to eliminate fax servers, cards, and telephone lines, and instead pay a fee for access to the FoIP service.

International Presence, the original developers of the TeleFax/400 software sold by IBM for many years, announced its hosted CloudFax/400 offering two years ago.

The FoIP offering allows IBM i shops to maintain business processes and application interfaces that are reliant on faxes, but without making any changes to the code. Instead of maintaining dedicated fax hardware and paying for phone lines, customers can send and receive faxes electronically via IP, and instead pay IP on a per-page or flat-fee basis.

Last month, the UK-based company announced a second-quarter promotion whereby it would give away the CloudFax/400 software in exchange for customers agreeing to pay a monthly fee of $200. In addition to the fee, customers must pay for each fax sent and received, something on the order of $.06 each. The company also has bundles available for high-volume fax environments. The deal is good through the end of the month, says IP group sales director Jay Wadhia.

IP launched the promotional campaign in response to the lack of communications card interfaces on the new generation of IBM PureSystems servers. “When customers of IBM’s PureSystems look at our solution they breathe a sigh of relief because not only do they get a no-hassle replacement to their existing system, but with prices starting at just $200 a month they very swiftly recognize the benefit of moving platforms and embracing the cloud,” says IP CEO Glyn Davies.

The company says customers with existing IBM Facsimile Support/400 and other V.24 CCITT-connected fax server solutions are able to migrate to CloudFax/400 quickly and easily. In most cases, no programming changes are required, and existing spool files for invoices, purchase orders, and other business documents can be reused with the FoIP offering. However, customers must continue to run the Fax/400 software on the IBM i server, since this product handles the interface to the various ERP applications, such as MAPICS, JD Edwards, and BPCS.

Customers who are ready to move past Fax/400 are candidates for IP’s other FoIP offering, called IMPSCloud.com. This offering offers its own APIs, which allows IBM i shops to ditch the old Fax/400 software and allow applications to speak directly to the FoIP offering.

IP and its U.S. subsidiary, Indialantic, Florida-based American Presence, run CloudFax/400 and IMPSCloud.com on banks of Windows servers hosted in a pair of data centers. Customers can monitor both offerings through Web-based dashboard interfaces.
