IBM i PTF Guide, Volume 19, Number 19
May 17, 2017 Doug Bidwell
Every Wednesday, the IBM i PTF Guide is included in The Four Hundred to help system administrators figure out what patches to put onto your machines and what ones you can ignore. The IBM i PTF Guide is available in downloadable spreadsheet format, and we have taken the archive back about two and a half years for your convenience.
We are, as always, thankful to Doug Bidwell, the owner of IBM i business partner DLB Systems Associates, who has been putting together a guide to help OS/400, i5/OS, and IBM i shops deal with patches for the past 19 years. If you need some IBM i help, Bidwell is the man to give it to you. And if you want to take care of this yourself, here is Bidwell’s recommendation: You should create your own Patch Wednesday. Use the IBM i PTF Guide and determine what is best for your organization and follow a regular cadence of applying patches and keeping current. And if you get in over your head, reach out to DLB Associates and get some assistance.
In this week’s IBM i PTF Guide, IBM is tweaking the NetServer add-on that brings Windows file and print serving to OS/400 and IBM i platforms, has some tweaks for better compatibility with the SMB2 protocol used by Windows Server. There are also tweaks for Navigator for i when it is accessing NFS directories.
We are providing a deep archive of the IBM i PTF Guide, for which the past several years’ worth of issues are below. Have fun!
