  • AURA Rolls Out New Database Connectors in Launcher/400

    January 15, 2013 Alex Woodie

AURA Equipments has introduced three new database connectors for Launcher/400, an IBM i utility that enables users to output DB2 for i data in different formats. With the latest release of Launcher/400, the company now gives users the capability to pull data from Oracle, MySQL, and PostgreSQL databases, in addition to DB2 for i.

The new connectors enable Launcher/400 to reformat data sitting in Oracle, MySQL, and PostgreSQL databases in much the same way they have been used to transform data from DB2 for i into other formats, such as Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PDFs, or distribute them via email or fax.

“Our users will now be able to address equally their databases and systems,” states AURA Equipments technical director Sylvain Rubele. “They can also control the features of Launcher/400 from System i, Windows, and Linux/Unix.”

Launcher/400 has been used in Windows environments for years. A key feature of the software is the capability to activate and control Windows applications remotely, such as automatically opening an Excel spreadsheet and initiating Excel functions to create files or recalculate values, or for transferring files from IFS to Windows folders. When used in this manner, the IBM i server remains in control of Windows activities, including scheduling of batch operations.

In other news, AURA announced that it has moved research and development and corporate offices. The French company’s new R&D office is located in Sophia Antipolis (Alpes Maritimes), while its headquarters is in a new location in Paris.
