  • Lawson to Acquire Developer of HR Software

    March 4, 2008 Alex Woodie

Lawson Software recently announced its intention to acquire VasTech, a developer of .NET-based staffing and scheduling software for the healthcare, hospitality, and casino markets. Lawson intends to include VasTech’s products in its Lawson Human Capital Management suite, and complete the acquisition this month.

VasTech’s offering, called VasTech 24/7, is a Web-based collection of components–including DemandMapper, ShiftMaker, IntraGate, CredentialManager, CentralStaffer, and ClockWorker–designed to complement customers’ core time-and-attendance solutions with a more powerful and flexible staff scheduling system. Labor benefits from features such as online shift swapping, shift bidding, and vacation request tracking, while management can use the software to build work schedules and staff profiles, post open jobs on a Web page, and track staffing levels.

VasTech 24/7 also brings features designed specifically for the healthcare, hospitality, casino, and government services industries. For example, when scheduling a nurse’s shifts in a hospital setting, VasTech 24/7 can be used to maintain an optimal mix of skills throughout the day, to ensure compliance with regulations and help keep patients healthy. The product features similar functionality for keeping a casino staffed with workers who can provide the highest impact on the gaming floor.

VasTech commonly works with some of the big names in the HR and time and attendance business, including Lawson, PeopleSoft, SAP, Cerner, Kronos, and API Financial Solutions. Some of its customers include Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Johns Hopkins, Foxwoods Resort Casino, and Wynn Las Vegas.

Josh Vance, co-founder of VasTech, explained why the acquisition by Lawson makes sense. “As we looked for the right growth opportunity for our solution and our clients, Lawson clearly emerged as the right fit because of its leadership position in the healthcare industry, along with its leadership in the human capital management space across many workforce-intensive industries,” he says.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. VasTech is a privately held company based in Annapolis, Maryland, and has 45 employees.
