  • Roger Pence, the ‘Anti-PowerPoint,’ to Hold ASNA Workshops on Wings

    April 12, 2011 Alex Woodie

ASNA last week announced that next month it will be holding two half-day workshops covering Wings, its new IBM i modernization tool that’s based on IBM‘s Open Access: RPG Edition technology. The workshops–scheduled for Chicago on May 18 and New York City the following day–will be led by Roger Pence, who promises not to bore you to death with PowerPoints.

Wings, which ASNA unveiled about five months ago and shipped in January, is one of the first application modernization tools to use IBM’s RPG Open Access technology. ASNA uses the software to convert DDS display files into ASP.NET-based Web interfaces, which customers can then customize in whatever way they like.

In the workshops, ASNA’s Pence will explain the Wings architecture, and show how RPG developers can utilize the technology to create new GUIs for IBM i applications, without modifying the underling RPG logic. He’ll demonstrate how to integrate the new IBM i application interface with Google Maps, and provide advice on using CSS and AJAX.

The workshops will be hands-on, and won’t put attendees to sleep with endless PowerPoints, Pence says. “This isn’t a carnival barker presentation,” he says. “We’ll roll up our sleeves, pull out the keyboard, and let the technology speak for itself. Seeing things in action is worth more than a hundred PowerPoints.”

People interested in signing up for the workshops can find more information at www.asna.com/en/Products/Wings/Pages/Wingsworkshops.aspx.
