  • SoftTree Adds MySQL Support to Data Audit Tool

    May 22, 2007 Alex Woodie

SoftTree Technologies has added support for the MySQL database with DB Audit Expert, its database audit tool that it now can claim supports every other major database, including DB2/400.

DB Audit Expert is an affordable tool that administrators and auditors can use to track and analyze all database activity, including any access, use, adds, changes, or deletion. The product is particularly useful for proving compliance to the laundry list of regulations affecting IT: SOX, GLBA, HIPAA, BASEL II, et al.

Up to this point, the product has worked with all major database management systems–DB2/400, DB2 UDB, SQL Server, Oracle, and Sybase–with the exception of MySQL. When DB Audit 4.0 ships this month, support for the fastest-growing database on Windows and Linux will be included. (Users will likely have to wait for a version of DB Audit that works on i5/OS.)

“Our customer base has been asking for MySQL support for a long time,” says Bryan Bain, chief marketing officer at SoftTree Technologies, which is based in Staten Island, New York. “Our initial feature set represents a huge leap forward for the MySQL community, but it will get substantially better over time.”

SoftTree says its tool can shine a light into the murky inner workings of LAMP-based Web applications, which refers to applications written in PHP and Perl scripts and run on the Linux-Apache-MySQL stack. Currently, database access with such application is “virtually invisible” to network monitoring tools, the company says. With DB Audit Expert on the case, admins will be able to see who accessed the database, what they did, and when they did it.

DB Audit Expert pricing is going up with version 4. Previous releases sold for $329 per database instance. Version 4.0 will start at $495 per database. For more information, visit www.softtreetech.com.

Get More Out of Your IBM i

With soaring costs, operational data is more critical than ever. IBM shops need faster, easier ways to distribute IBM applications-based data to users more efficiently, no matter where they are.

    The Problem:

For Users, IBM Data Can Be Difficult to Get To

IBM Applications generate reports as spooled files, originally designed to be printed. Often those reports are packed together with so much data it makes them difficult to read. Add to that hardcopy is a pain to distribute. User-friendly formats like Excel and PDF are better, offering sorting, searching, and easy portability but getting IBM reports into these formats can be tricky without the right tools.

    The Solution:

IBM i Reports can easily be converted to easy to read and share formats like Excel and PDF and Delivered by Email

Converting IBM i, iSeries, and AS400 reports into Excel and PDF is now a lot easier with SpoolFlex software by DRV Tech.  If you or your users are still doing this manually, think how much time is wasted dragging and reformatting to make a report readable. How much time would be saved if they were automatically formatted correctly and delivered to one or multiple recipients.

SpoolFlex converts spooled files to Excel and PDF, automatically emailing them, and saving copies to network shared folders. SpoolFlex converts complex reports to Excel, removing unwanted headers, splitting large reports out for individual recipients, and delivering to users whether they are at the office or working from home.

Watch our 2-minute video and see DRV’s powerful SpoolFlex software can solve your file conversion challenges.
