  • Logistics Company Adopts MIMIX from Vision Solutions

    September 11, 2007 Alex Woodie

T.JOIN Transportation Company, Taiwan’s largest freight forwarder and logistics company, has adopted MIMIX ha1, the former Lakeview Technologies high availability product now sold by Vision Solutions, the software company announced recently.

T.JOIN used to have difficulty satisfying customer demand for information about its stuff. This was largely due to the company’s reliance on a decentralized collection of 60 computers. At any given time during the day or night, one or more of the computers would be offline for routine maintenance or backups, taking the information they contained offline, as well.

The decentralized computing structure made other tasks difficult too, according to T.JOIN CIO, Yang Zhi-Wen. “When we were using the distributed IT infrastructure, information could not be updated simultaneously as it was scattered on multiple systems,” he says. “In addition, the 60 systems required intensive manpower and resources for daily data input and updates. When one system was down, the entire data input process was affected.”

The company, which is based in Taichung, addressed these problems by consolidating its computing infrastructure onto two System i servers, a job handled by IBM Taiwan. To increase its disaster preparedness, the company established a remote recovery center in LinKou, and adopted MIMIX to replicate data and objects between the two systems.

With MIMIX running, the company is more prepared to weather natural disasters, such as a typhoon or an earthquake. It’s also able to better withstand more ordinary challenges, such as daily backups and routine maintenance.

It is a big improvement, Yang says. “The new system assures that daily backups can be completed effortlessly, as MIMIX replicates data in real time transparently and seamlessly without disrupting our workflow. As a result, our customer support staff can better serve customers with the most up-to-date information at their fingertips including delivery status.”
