  • Infor Bolsters Hotel Software Business with Acquisition

    September 28, 2010 Alex Woodie

Infor last week announced its SoftBrands subsidiary has acquired the property management systems (PMS) division of Amadeus IT Group, a large European provider of travel technology and services.

The Amadeus buy nets Infor/SoftBrands a collection of Unix- and Windows-based hotel management systems used at nearly 10,000 properties around the world, and turns it into the second largest provider of hospitality software in the world, the vendor claims.

Infor and its equity partner, Golden Gate Capital, got into the PMS business a year ago when it bought SoftBrands for $80 million. The Minneapolis-based outfit had previously acquired the IBM i-based PMS from Hotel Information Systems (HIS) in 2006, and also owned an ERP system for manufacturers.

The addition of the Amadeus PMS products gives Infor an immediate boost in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region. Tracy Flynn, the general manager of Infor’s Hospitality business, says the acquisition “significantly enhances our ability to support global customers, and perfectly complements our existing footprint, allowing us to deliver our portfolio of solutions to the worldwide hospitality market.”

Amadeus IT Group, which is headquartered in Spain but has holdings throughout France and Germany, has a diverse array of travel-related business. Now that it has divested its hotel business to Infor, the company provides solutions for airlines and airports, travel agencies, car rental companies, cruise and ferry lines, railway companies, tour operators, and insurance companies.
