  • ProData Converts Spool Files to Emails with SPLF2EML

    October 1, 2013 Alex Woodie

Are you having trouble getting IBM i spool file output into the hands of your users, customers, or partners? If you are, then a new utility unveiled by ProData Computer Services last month may be just what you need. Called SPLF2EML, the $195 piece of software allows a user at a 5250 screen to convert IBM i spool files into PDFs and then distribute them via email.

The new Convert Spool File to Email (SPLF2EML) product is an interactive tool that allows a user to convert spool files to PDF files, and then automatically email those PDFs to a list of up to 15 recipients. In addition to handling the PDF attachment, the utility enables the user to specify email subject lines and to include text for the body of the email as well.

ProData’s new SPLF2EML utility allows a user to email an IBM i spooled file from a 5250 interface.

The Nebraska software company says the new software allows users to pick one or more spool files to be merged into one PDF document. What’s more, it supports *PRV on all command parms. “If *PRV is used, the program will prompt the user with the previous options allowing the user to make changes,” the company says.

SPLF2EML is the latest addition to ProData’s conversion lineup, which also includes SPLF2PDF and SPLF2HTML. The company’s Database Utility (DBU) is the company’s all-time bestseller and breadwinner, but the new offerings will help solve real-world problems of ProData’s IBM i customers. “With SPLF2EML, we continue to offer useful utilities our customers request,” ProData CEO and owner Allen Hartley says in a press release.

SPLF2EML works with i5/OS V5R4 and higher. For SPLF2EML to work, there must be a configured email server on the system. For more information, see SkyView Taps New CEO to Ride the Compliance Wave.
