Tango/04 Touts International Sales

The product news might have tapered off from Tango/04 Computing Group, but the Spanish developer of systems management software for IBM i and other platforms is gaining steam in the sales department, according to the company, which recently announced that sales exploded in the first six months of the year.

Tango/04, which has a U.S. office in Peterborough, New Hampshire–the former headquarters of its former business partner, Softlanding Systems–says that sales for the first half of 2010 grew by 41 percent compared to the same period in 2009, which by all accounts was an abysmal stretch for all companies in the IT business.

It was a good six months, but, despite what it claimed last month, was not a record for the company, which four years ago claimed 42 percent year-over-year growth for the first six months of 2006.

As a privately held company, Tango/04 isn’t obliged to provide any detail into its finances. And except for that 41 percent figure, it didn’t provide any other data concerning the state of the outfit. But it’s worth noting for no other reason than Tango/04 hasn’t been heard from for some time, and it’s sometimes good to hear that ISVs in the IBM i ecosystem are still making and selling software and solutions.

Tango/04 CEO Raúl Cristián Aguirre expressed his happiness with the results. “Despite the fact that last year was very difficult in almost every market, everyone at Tango/04 did an awesome job working as a team, and that made us stronger than ever. We are doing projects that are absolutely pioneers in the world and we achieved great results in the most consolidated regions.”

Examples of the deals Tango/04 participated in include Caja Navarra in Spain, Banco Itaú in Chile, and Nike in China. “We continue to grow in regions in which our presence is not so strong yet, but we are confident that it soon will be,” Aguirre adds.
