  • CYBRA Gives Users More Control Over System i Printing with MarkMagic 6.1

    November 27, 2007 Alex Woodie

CYBRA recently launched a new release of MarkMagic, the company’s software for designing barcode labels, RFID tags, and electronic forms for printing from System i servers. With version 6.1, the New York company has given customers the option of using a new Print Manager component that CYBRA says will provide greater control over document management activities.

The Print Manager component of MarkMagic lets the user define certain rules based on information in the spool file. At run time, Print Manager automatically processes these rules and changes printing instructions to follow them. In this way, users can let their print jobs define things like which printer to use, what format to use, how many copies to print, and what color and type of paper or check stock to use. All this can be accomplished without any programming, CYBRA says.

Possible uses of the new component include printing medication administration records at hospital nurses’ stations, printing compliance labels closest to where pallets are staged, or to e-mail or fax certain invoices or statements depending on the recipients’ preferences, according to Sheldon Reich, vice president of marketing for the New York City company.

CYBRA sells several other add-ons for MarkMagic besides Print Manager, including the Print Monitor option, the PDF/E-Mail/Fax option, the RFID option, the FormWeaver option, and the 2D Laser option. CYBRA recommends using Print Manager along with Print Monitor, which watches i5/OS output queues for new spool files to print.

Print Manager requires OS/400 V5R2 or higher and MarkMagic version 6.1. CYBRA, which is also sporting a new PHP-based Web site, is planning to hold Webinars on Print Manager. Visit the company’s Web site at www.CYBRA.com for dates and times.
