    Companies in the market for a full function business intelligence product they can access from the cloud may want to check out Birst. The San Francisco company, which launched a new BI interface for smartphones last week, says its customers get the equivalent of a fully integrated BI suite like Cognos, but at just 20 percent of the total cost, and a fraction of the complexity, thanks to automated tools and the software as a service (SaaS) and cloud delivery method.

  • RTC Partners with Manthan to Sell BI to Retailers

    Retail Technologies Corp. (RTC), a software developer and IBM business partner that serves U.S. retailers, recently announced a partnership with Manthan Systems, an Indian developer of business intelligence (BI) solutions geared specifically toward the retail industry. RTC has high expectations for Manthan’s BI product, called ARC, especially among its customer base of small and medium-sized retailers that run JDA software on IBM i systems.

  • 10ZiG Welcomes WES 7 as New Thin Client OS

    10ZiG Technology is now selling two thin clients pre-loaded with the embedded version of the Windows 7 operating system. The Phoenix, Arizona, company, which supports 5250 emulation on most of its thin client devices, claims that it is the first thin client vendor to support the new Microsoft operating system.

  • New GXS Analytics App to Live on Microsoft’s Azure Cloud

    GXS, which completed its merger with Inovis in early June, is testing a new analytics application designed to give small and mid-sized businesses insight into their supply chain performance and information flows. The offering, called GXS Trading Partner Analytics, is currently undergoing beta tests on the Microsoft Azure cloud computing platform.

    GXS is positioning its Trading Partner Analytics as an on-demand extension to GXS Trading Grid, its flagship business-to-business (B2B) messaging service, which is used by more than 100,000 organizations for exchanging business documents such as EDI, XML, and flat files, across a range of protocols.

  • ManageEngine Bolsters Systems Management Tools

    The developers at systems management tool provider ManageEngine have been hard at work cranking out the features lately. The company, which supports the IBM i platform with several utilities, unveiled two new products and updates to three others.

    Last week, ManageEngine unveiled SQLDBManager Plus, a new monitoring tool for SQL Server databases. The software is designed to help administrators track usage patterns, perform troubleshooting, resolve performance bottlenecks, and assist in capacity planning. Pricing starts at $795.

  • Mochasoft Delivers 5250 Emulator for Windows 7

    Mochasoft, the popular Danish developer of affordable terminal emulators for the System i and other platforms, recently launched two new releases of its Mocha TN5250 emulator, including one that runs on the Microsoft‘s Windows 7 operating system, and another for Apple‘s Mac OS/X.

    The newly released Mocha TN5250 for Windows 7 emulator supports all standard 5250 functions on Windows 7, Windows Vista, and even Windows XP hosts. The software supports user-defined keys and other customizations, macros, and device names. Users also have the option of using 128-bit SSL encryption.

  • Seeing if That Suit Is in Stock? Anthony Squires Has iPhone-i App for That

    Answering customer questions about which particular items of men’s clothing are in stock will be easier now that the Australian retailer Anthony Squires has developed an iPhone application for checking inventory. The new application, which was developed using IBM “i” technology from looksoftware, will cut down on time-consuming calls to the head office, and lead to increased sales and happier customers, the company hopes.

  • Ewing Taps ManH Apps to Help Manage Irrigation Business

    Ewing Irrigation Products is no stranger to information technology. The company, which distributes more than 13,000 types of irrigation products through seven distribution centers and 195 stores, got a leg up on competitors back in the 1970s by writing its own inventory optimization software for the System 3. More recently, the company standardized on IBM i-based supply chain software from Manhattan Associates, which is helping drive more efficiency into the business.

  • Crossroads Looks at the Source of Slow Tape Backups

    Crossroads Systems last week unveiled a new service aimed at identifying the causes of slow tape backups. Called the Library Overview Analysis Service, the new offering will help customers get a better handle on the operational nature of their tape-based backup systems, and make their backups faster as a result.
