  • BCD Tweaks IBM i Development Tool

    August 8, 2012 Dan Burger

There’s nothing wrong with the green screen, but you better ask the people who use those applications if they believe that or not. While the old school display kicks butt in plenty of modern organizations from banking to manufacturing and from Omaha to Okinawa, there are bazillions of 5250 apps that need to be converted and brand new Web apps that need to be written. WebSmart ILE is one of the tools for doing that, and Business Computer Design, Intl. (BCD) has just updated that tool.

Developers have been using WebSmart ILE to produce CGI-based Web applications since 2001, and

  • TEMBO Sets Out to Save IBM i with Database Modernization

    August 7, 2012 Alex Woodie

Marinus Van Sandwyk and his colleagues at TEMBO Technology Lab are determined to save the IBM i platform. It may sound farfetched on its surface. After all, isn’t that IBM‘s job? But when you hear what Van Sandwyk has to say about the real limitations of the platform (i.e. its legacy ISAM database engine) and the potential solution (get thee to the SQL), you start to think he’s on to something.

The user interface is widely blamed for being the biggest problem in the IBM i world. Few people want to work on a text-base, green-screen interface, and fewer

The delivery of the new release within six months of the product’s acquisition from IBM demonstrates the commitment that Rocket Software has made for the product line and the business, a Rocket executive says in an interview with IT Jungle.

  • Kisco Offers Finer-Grained Monitoring with Twitter Utility

    August 7, 2012 Alex Woodie

Companies that use Kisco Information Systems‘ Twitter utility to keep an eye on their IBM i servers can now monitor for specific message types with the just-released version 4 of Kisco’s SNDTWEET.

Kisco introduced SNDTWEET more than three years ago to provide systems administrators with a handy way to monitor their IBM i servers. The software takes advantage of the ubiquitous Twitter messaging service to keep admins aware of important system-generated events, such as error messages due to an abnormally ended batch job. The software also allows admins to query for system status, job status, and user status, and

  • Linoma Adds Outlook Plug-In to MFT Software

    August 7, 2012 Alex Woodie

With last week’s release of GoAnywhere Services version 2.8, Linoma Software has added an Outlook 2010 plug-in within the Secure Mail component of the managed file transfer (MFT) solution.

    August 7, 2012 Alex Woodie

Users and applications won’t have to wait as long to pull up data that’s been protected with Liaison Technologies‘ Token Manager, thanks to performance enhancements built into the latest release. The Atlanta, Georgia, company says that version 2.2, which was unveiled last week, features administrative enhancements as well.

  • $2 Billion Manufacturer Standardizes on Infor iEnterprise

    August 7, 2012 Alex Woodie

Infor‘s IBM i development group got a shot in the arm recently when A. Schulman, an Ohio-based manufacturer of plastic compounds and resins, decided to standardize its global operations on Infor10 ERP iEnterprise (LX), the application formerly known as BPCS.

Infor doesn’t get a lot of respect from mainstream analysts, who seem loathe to mention the ERP software giant in the same breath as rivals SAP and Oracle. Even Microsoft, which can’t match Infor in terms of enterprise application revenue or installed base, gets more love than poor Infor. Infor’s applications, goes the thinking, make good second-tier
