  • Gumbo Creates Digitally Signed PDFs from i5/OS Spool Files

    i5/OS shops using Gumbo Software‘s SpoolMail and Spool-a-Matic products can now create digitally signed PDF documents from their System i’s spool files, the software developer recently announced.

    Seattle, Washington-based Gumbo Software develops a range of software utilities designed to spruce up the System i server’s native print output mechanism. Key among these are Spool-a-Matic, which converts i5/OS spool files into PDF, RTF, HTML, and other PC formats and then places them in a predefined location on the IFS, and SpoolMail, which automatically e-mails spool files as ASCII or PDF attachments.

  • Solidcore Supports i5/OS with Real-Time Change Control

    Solidcore Systems is now supporting the System i server with its collection of real-time change control and PCI compliance software, the company confirmed last week.   • Vision to Support IBM’s HASM Technology in Clustering Software

    Vision Solutions last week announced that it’s supporting the new High Availability Solutions Manager (HASM) that IBM will include with the forthcoming release of i5/OS V6R1. With HASM support in Cluster1, the largest System i shops will have a single solution for managing their entire high availability environments, from logical replication all the way through hardware-based clustering solutions such as HASM.

    When it becomes available with i5/OS V6R1 on March 21HASM will provide another way for System i shops to replicate data, objects, and resources as part of a high availability or disaster recovery program.

  • CodeGear Offers a Rational Alternative for System i Development

    Borland subsidiary CodeGear yesterday announced that it is reselling the Delphi/400 family of products, which was originally developed by SystemObjects. With the Delphi/400 and Delphi/400 for PHP offerings, CodeGear customers gain a way to develop Web- and Windows-based front ends to existing RPG and COBOL applications from within Delphi, Borland’s 4GL IDE–and also gain another alternative to IBM and its WebSphere and Rational development tools.

    Houston, Texas-based Wheelabrator Technologies knows something about waste. For 30 years, the Waste Management subsidiary has been converting household trash into billions of kilowatt-hours of clean, renewable energy. Now, the JD Edwards World customer is looking to Quadrant Software and its paperless process management (PPM) solutions to help it get rid of another source of waste–paperwork–and implement more efficient paperless business processes.
