Gartner Takes Aim at the Middleware Market

All signs continue to point to a bullish 2011, which has already brought news of rising spending and increased hiring within the IT industry. Server and storage sales were up as 2010 came to a close, and the latest prediction from the analysts at Gartner indicates the application infrastructure and middleware (AIM) market is also on an upward trend.

Gartner recently reported the worldwide AIM software revenue market totaled $17.6 billion in 2010, which is a 7.3 percent increase over 2009, when AIM revenue grew 3.4 percent and reached $16.4 billion.

Software Sales Rebound at ERP Giant SAP

The recovery in IT spending seems to be coming along if the sales at ERP software juggernaut SAP are any indication. But the company is spending more money to make more money, and that means its profits are not keeping pace, much less growing faster than revenues as investors like to see. The profit pressure might mean, however, that SAP is giving customers some good deals to make deals, and that is good for customers.

Why is my i/OS Email Coming Back Undeliverable?

We send a lot of emails from our i 6.1.1 partition using the operating system’s SMTP server and a third-party email application. We recently converted from paper to email invoices, which has resulted in a big spike in System i email. Now we’re also seeing more messages returned from our external SMTP relay as “undeliverable.” What’s going on and what can I do about it?

Centerfield Launches IBM i Auditing Tools

Centerfield Technology is best known for its IBM i performance tools. But this spring, the Rochester, Minnesota, company is turning over a new leaf with the launch of two data auditing tools for IBM i, called dataCapture and dataAlert. The new offerings–developed in partnership with Centerfield’s new partner, Databeam–are designed to keep managers abreast of changes to data on the IBM i servers, which could indicate anything from a security risk to new customer activity.

Maxava Worked ‘Just Like it Says on the Tin,’ Customer Says

Walkers Shortbread, a Scottish baker of cookies and other treats, recently executed an emergency failover using Maxava‘s IBM i high availability, Maxava announced last week. The company was able to keep its ERP system online for three days after a late season snowstorm knocked out power to its primary Power Systems server.
