  • Kisco Extends Two Factor Authentication To Green Screens

    July 27, 2020 Alex Woodie

Companies that still rely on 5250 greenscreens to get work done can now lock down those sessions with a new two-factor authentication feature recently delivered in Kisco Information Systems’ i2Pass offering. The New York company is also giving customers of its iEventMonitor solution new capabilities to automatically respond to error messages in a remote fashion.

Green screens, if you haven’t noticed, are not going away. Despite the ubiquity of Web and mobile interfaces for new development, there’s a large number of applications that require users to log into a 5250 terminal emulation session to get the job done. For companies …

  • Townsend Taps Authy To Strengthen 2FA on IBM i

    February 14, 2018 Alex Woodie

Townsend Security adopted a new smartphone app called Authy to deliver one-time authentication codes to users in the latest release of its two-factor authentication (2FA) solution for IBM i. The new Authy solution replaces the text messaging-based approach that it previously used, which soon will likely be no longer compliant with PCI regulations.

2FA solutions are the emerging standard for authentication in the enterprise, following the long downward spiral in the effectiveness and efficiency of using passwords to confirm identity. Nearly everybody carries a smartphone these days, and enterprises have tried multiple ways to incorporate that fact into their authentication …

  • IBM i Security Expert Interprets PCI and Multi-Factor Authentication

    July 17, 2017 Dan Burger

With data security written boldly at the top of many organizations’ priority lists, the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is viewed as a top line defense against data breaches. Whether a company handles credit cards and is required to implement mandated security measures or uses the PCI standard as a best practices model, IT security gurus pay attention to the PCI DSS.

We are well beyond the realization that organizations need to be secure. The emphasis has clearly shifted to how organizations become secure. How to build and maintain a secure network, protect data and regularly monitor …

Passwords, in many ways, are the bane of our digital existence. We can’t live with passwords, but we certainly can’t live without them either. HelpSystems is aware of the challenges posed by this necessary evil, and has plans to alleviate the password pain with a series of new products and enhancements to existing ones.

Last week at the COMMON Annual Meeting and Expo in Orlando, Florida, HelpSystems Vice President of Technical Services Tom Huntington previewed for IT Jungle a new product the company plans to ship by the end of June.

The new product is called Access Authenticator, and it’s …

  • Time To Get Your 2FA On, IBM i Admins

    April 3, 2017 Alex Woodie

System administrators working in regulated industries will soon be required to sign-in to servers using two-factor authentication (2FA), according to the latest PCI requirement. The industry regulation will impact administrators working with all types of computer systems, and will likely be enforced in late 2017 or early 2018, security experts say.

In prior versions of the Payment Cardholder Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), only remote administrators were required to use 2FA, which bolsters the security of the sign-on process by requiring users to show “something you know,” like a password, as well as “something you have,” like a hardware …
