  • IBM Chops Prices on Racks, PDUs, and UPSes

March 22, 2010 Timothy Prickett Morgan

If you are looking to build out your data center, server room, or data closet and you are in need of new server racks, power distribution units, and uninterruptible power supplies, IBM has a deal for you.

In announcement letter 310-135, Big Blue announced that it is chopping prices on selected racks and rack options between March 17 and June 30, the end of the second quarter. The lowered prices are only available to customers who buy directly from IBM’s online store. IBM has cut the price of its S2 standard 42U rack by 25 percent, to $1,207, and the price on the S2 expansion rack is also 25 percent lower, at $1,001. The price on the S2 Dynamic Rack was cut by 30 percent, to $1,539. The 1U slide-away 17-inch flat panel display for the IBM racks got a 35 percent chop, to $1,007, and the 19-inch kit, which has a DVD/CD burner, was also cut by 35 percent, to $1,494. The 1×8 console switch for the racks had its price reduced to $615, and the 2U UPS 10000XHV uninterruptible power supply costs 30 percent less, at $3,744. IBM’s various power distribution units for its racks got a 40 percent slice off the top, with prices ranging from $299 to $659 after the cut.

As The Four Hundred reported last week, IBM has already announced a new S2 half rack (25U in height, so technically more than half a rack), that costs $1,485. Its price was not cut as part of last week’s promotion.
