Maxava iFoundation Renews Grant Funding For Second Year

It is not hard to get a room full of IBM i advocates to agree that more needs to be done to support and promote their beloved platform. But agreeing on the best ways to further the IBM i community can result in heated debate. Rather than jump into the fray, IBM i high availability and disaster recovery software developer Maxava decided to give nonprofit groups the means to offer some solutions, in the form of cold hard cash. Maxava launched the iFoundation in March 2011 with the mission of offering financial assistance to front-line, not-for-profit organizations in their work to foster education about the IBM i platform, support guest speaker programs, and fund initiatives designed to grow and strengthen the IBM i community. Last year, the iFoundation awarded $45,000 in grant monies to nearly 20 local and national user groups and projects undertaken by ISVs in North America, Europe, and South Africa. You might recognize some of last year’s recipients, which included the South East Michigan iSeries User Group (SEMIUG), the OMNI User Group, the Fairfield Application Systems User Group (FASUG), and the COMMON Education Foundation.
If your organization missed out in 2011, take heart. Maxava’s iFoundation is opening its checkbook once again. The Maxava iFoundation recently announced its continued support of the groups and organizations that promote the IBM i platform with an additional $50,000 in grant funding available to qualifying organizations for projects between June 2012 and June 2013. “We were delighted with the applications the Maxava iFoundation received in 2011 and the chance it gave us to help the hard-working organizations that support and promote the IBM i community worldwide,” said Allan Campbell, chief executive officer of Maxava. “Despite being involved in the IBM i world for many years, we are now more aware than ever of the hard work that is quietly put into supporting our community by a significant number of dedicated and unpaid IBM i professionals.” Applications are currently being accepted and are welcomed from any not-for-profit organization helping to enhance the broader IBM i community in any part of the world. The grants can be used for IBM i-related activities, including: education; administration costs; group meetings; conferences; membership growth initiatives; events; speaker support; and marketing and educational collaboration with local colleges and universities. The grants cannot be used for personal expenses or any expenses that have already been incurred. The catch? All that is asked of the recipient of the grant is to place the Maxava iFoundation Logo on their website. Funding recipients from 2011 are also welcome to reapply. A limited number of grants are available, topping out at up to $2,000 for any one organization. The application deadline is June 30, 2012.
