  • iBelieve Revival From looksoftware Heads Down To Wall Street

August 13, 2012 Timothy Prickett Morgan

The iBelieve event is coming to the Big Apple, and if you are in the tri-state area on September 27, then looksoftware wants you to stop by Wall Street and sit in on its latest IBM i community event.

During my holiday two weeks ago, I went down to Wall Street where my wife works to have lunch with her and stopped by the Downtown Conference Centre run by Pace University on William Street, just a few blocks east of Ground Zero and a few blocks north of Wall Street. The shindig is perfect and looks like it might hold as many as 84 people if they are friendly, as the IBM i crowd tends to be. So if you want to hear Frank Soltis, the father of the System/38 and of the AS/400 alike, talk about the past, present, and future of the IBM i platform, then click this link and register before all the chairs get full. (I just got my spot on the list.)

Brendan Kay, CEO at looksoftware, will be speaking as well, and so will Pete Massiello, the former COMMON president and owner of iTech Solutions Group, a business partner based in Danbury, Connecticut. Alison Butterill, IBM i product manager, and Trevor Perry, perhaps the staunchest IBM i advocate around and certainly the most vocal, will also be making presentations. In addition to the talks they will give on various topics, there will also be a session so attendees can ask questions of the experts.

The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., is free of charge and includes a boxed lunch and refreshments throughout the day.

“iBelieve Anaheim brought together IBM i users and experts alike, and highlighted many of the great successes happening on the platform,” says Kay in a statement. “We are excited to continue the discussion on the strength of the world’s best application server platform, and look forward to another excellent session in New York.”

    See ya there.

Let me give you a little advice. This is the old part of the city, where the streets were laid out by the Dutch in the 1600s. There are a lot of one-way streets, and many of them only have a single lane. There are also police checkpoints near the Freedom Tower, and there’s construction all over the place this time of year. While there is parking on the streets to the north and to the south of the conference centers–and it is a bit cheaper than parking in Midtown Manhattan–if you can take public transportation to the iBelieve New York event, you should do so. That will be an experience in and of itself, and you will get to see a little bit of the Big Apple and not be cursing at it from behind the steering wheel. You can also walk a few blocks to see the New York Fed, the New York Stock Exchange, and the Freedom Tower, and when you are done with that, you can walk up to Chinatown for dinner and Little Italy for desert and make a night of it.
