  • Take The Common Europe Top Concerns 2012 Survey Now

September 10, 2012 Timothy Prickett Morgan

The annual Top Concerns of IBM i shops survey may be done by COMMON Europe, but it is meant to cover the world and it is one of the things that COMMON Europe does on behalf of the entire community. This is the seventh year that COMMON Europe is doing the survey in an effort to balance your needs against those of the largest IBM i shops that have more or less direct access to IBM‘s Rochester Labs, and you should therefore take some time and take the survey.

It’s for your own good and that of your peers in the IBM i community.

You can take the Top Concerns survey at http://www.topconcerns.org, and if you go to that site, you can also see the full report that was ginned up from the 2011 survey. I did my coverage of that report here and there, but you can have a gander at the raw material to suit yourself as well.

The 2012 Top Concerns survey is available in English and French and is open to IBM i shops worldwide. This year’s questions look at security, application development, infrastructure issues, and mobile devices as well as the usual demographics, economic, migration issues, and includes a write in area for a “golden concern” if yours is not on the list. Like last year, one person from each geographical region (Europe, Americas, Africa, Australasia, and Japan) who takes the survey will be eligible for a free iPod as a prize.

Preliminary results of the Top Concerns 2012 survey will be available in September of this year.

And here’s a reminder that COMMON Europe will be held in Annecy, France, in June 2013. All the details are not yet hammered out, but it is in the resort town near a glacial lake that was formed 18,000 years ago near the border with Switzerland in the French Alps. I could try out some very bad French, maybe take the wife and kids . . . .

Get More Out of Your IBM i

With soaring costs, operational data is more critical than ever. IBM shops need faster, easier ways to distribute IBM applications-based data to users more efficiently, no matter where they are.

    The Problem:

For Users, IBM Data Can Be Difficult to Get To

IBM Applications generate reports as spooled files, originally designed to be printed. Often those reports are packed together with so much data it makes them difficult to read. Add to that hardcopy is a pain to distribute. User-friendly formats like Excel and PDF are better, offering sorting, searching, and easy portability but getting IBM reports into these formats can be tricky without the right tools.

    The Solution:

IBM i Reports can easily be converted to easy to read and share formats like Excel and PDF and Delivered by Email

Converting IBM i, iSeries, and AS400 reports into Excel and PDF is now a lot easier with SpoolFlex software by DRV Tech.  If you or your users are still doing this manually, think how much time is wasted dragging and reformatting to make a report readable. How much time would be saved if they were automatically formatted correctly and delivered to one or multiple recipients.

SpoolFlex converts spooled files to Excel and PDF, automatically emailing them, and saving copies to network shared folders. SpoolFlex converts complex reports to Excel, removing unwanted headers, splitting large reports out for individual recipients, and delivering to users whether they are at the office or working from home.

Watch our 2-minute video and see DRV’s powerful SpoolFlex software can solve your file conversion challenges.
