Arcad Delivers Free Emulator, Tester for WDSc

Published: September 25, 2007

by Alex Woodie

Arcad Software, the up-and-coming provider of programmers' tools for the System i platform, recently announced that it's giving away two pieces of software: a 5250 emulator that plugs into IBM's WDSc development environment, and a utility for testing System i objects.

Arcad says its new plug-in, called the Arcad 5250 Emulator for Eclipse, is handy for opening emulation sessions and working with 5250 objects from within the WDSc development environment. Instead of leaving the IDE and opening a separate window, developers can access native 5250 resources without leaving the environment.

Users can open an unlimited number of sessions with the freeware, which is fully customizable with respect to colors, typefaces, hotkeys, macros, and function keys. It works with WDSc versions 6 and 7 and Eclipse versions 3.0.x /3.2.x.

In addition to the plug-in, Arcad is also delivering its Plug-in for 5250 Unit Test, another free tool that allows programmers to test System i programs and external procedures from within the RSE explorer view of the WDSc development environment. The testing plug-in requires Arcad's free 5250 WDSc plug-in to be installed, and also requires an RSE connection to the System i server.

Arcad 5250 Emulator for Eclipse version 1.0.0.5 can be downloaded after filling in the form at www.arcadsoftware.com/content/view/209/316. Similarly, Arcad Plug-In for 5250 Unit Test version 1.0.0.4 can be downloaded after parting with some personal data at www.arcadsoftware.com/content/view/208/316/lang,en

COMMON Focus 2007 will be our first annual workshop conference event, featuring three days of intense, focused education. There will be 15 in-depth, all-day educational workshops offered - both in lab and lecture-style formats - in a wide range of topic areas. Attendees can attend only one workshop per day, providing attendees the opportunity to focus their educational needs on a specific topic each day.

COMMON Focus 2007 will kickoff on the evening of Sunday, October 14th
with a Welcome Reception, where attendees and workshop instructors can meet and network.
A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided each day, along with several breaks,
giving attendees time to interact with each other.

COMMON Focus 2007 will also have a tabletop-style exhibition area, featuring
a limited number of exhibitors. Attendees will be able to view and get
hands-on demonstration on the latest System i-related solutions available to them.

This innovative educational conference promises to be three days of intense learning -
it is an educational opportunity that you don't want to miss.
