  • Zephyr Updates Host Integration Tools

    January 30, 2007 Alex Woodie

Zephyr Development is now shipping PASSPORT Host Integration Objects 2006, the latest release of its programmatic application integration solution for iSeries and zSeries servers. The new release includes better security and new code samples, the vendor says.

Zephyr is one of a number of host access vendors in the Atlanta area that sells emulation and integration tools that enable companies to access their iSeries and zSeries applications (using 5250 and 3270 emulation), or take the first steps toward modernizing them with a “screen scraper” integration tool. The PASSPORT line includes both thick-client Windows emulators, as well as a Web-to-host option for accessing 5250 and 3270 apps through a browser.

PASSPORT Host Integration Objects is the screen scraper integration tool that connects legacy applications with other applications written using ActiveX or .NET. Like many of its ilk, PASSPORT HIO enables developers to extract business processes residing in 5250 and 3270 applications, and republish them in a Windows environment. The 5250 and 3270 connections still run in the background, but users now interact with the back end through a new Windows-based GUI.

With PASSPORT HIO 2006, which was unveiled in November, Zephyr has made several changes. Most importantly, the product’s documentation now contains C# sample code for all methods, properties, and events, in addition to the sample code in C++ and Visual Basic.

The new version also includes support for SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption.
