  • Avnet to Resell VDoc Content Management Suite in U.S.

    August 26, 2008 Alex Woodie

Avnet, one of two distributors atop IBM‘s System i reseller channel, announced plans to sell in the United States an integrated suite of content management software developed by the French company VDoc Software. The VDoc suite spans several disciplines, including content management, document management, business process management, and Web-based collaboration, and runs on i OS, Linux, Windows, and Unix operating systems, Avnet says.

VDoc got into the software business in 1997, when it launched its first document management offering to its European customer base. Over the years, the company gradually added additional functionality, including business process management capabilities in 1998, a collaborative portal in 2001, and content management last year. An indirect sales strategy has served the company well since 2005, and today the company boasts 650 customers and more than 400,000 users.

VDoc has been operating in the United States through its San Antonio, Texas, subsidiary since 2007, and today it has five resellers certified to sell its software. That number is expected to grow significantly following the new deal with Avnet, which is one of the largest and most influential companies in the IBM reseller channel.

The French company will have a chance to impress the Avnet channel at Ignition 08, an Avnet business partners conference that’s being held this week in VDoc USA’s hometown of San Antonio.

At the show, partners and potential customers will be introduced to the VDoc Suite and its five components: VDoc Portal; VDoc Process; VDoc Document Center; VDoc File Center; and VDoc Easy Site. Together, the components are designed to help companies categorize their knowledge, and set up new ways users can interact with the knowledge and with each other.

Customers can start with any of the five components, and build out from there. For example, with VDoc Document Management, users can merge data from their ERP or CRM systems onto pre-defined templates, and then export documents as PDFs or e-mail it via Outlook. With the addition of other components, users can store these documents online (with Portal) or set up a document approval workflow (with File Center).

Roch Auburtin, CEO of VDoc Software USA, is looking forward to what the Avnet partnership can yield. “The U.S. market offers a tremendous opportunity to build upon our success in Europe and help a new set of companies realize the power that comes from easily sharing the information and knowledge among their departments, mobile employees, partners, suppliers and customers,” he says.
