  • InsightSoftware.com Delivers Asset Management Product for JDE

    August 25, 2009 Alex Woodie

Companies that run the JD Edwards World and EnterpriseOne ERP systems were given a new option for managing capital assets earlier this month when InsightSoftware.com announced the availability of Capital Asset Management (CAM). The new product works with existing JDE modules such as Fixed Assets and Purchasing to ensure that equipment is properly maintained and people are efficiently scheduled.

InsightSoftware.com develops add-on products for Oracle‘s E-Business Suite and JD Edwards World and EnterpriseOne ERP systems. The company’s flagship product, Insight, is composed of 23 modules for JDE that span five functional areas: financial management; supply chain management; human capital management; project and asset management; and information management. Insight for EBS sports 10 modules.

CAM is the latest addition to the project and asset management area of Insight. The software aims to “maximize material management, improve maintenance and labor planning, and reduce expenses” involved in the management of capital-intensive assets, such as manufacturing equipment, trucks, and tractors, the company says.

Specifically, CAM aims to improve the visibility of customers into key pieces of data and processes, such as equipment maintenance schedules and meters that measure fuel consumption and hours of operation. By gathering information that’s relevant to the task at hand–such as scheduling, servicing, equipment, parts, and labor availability data–onto a single screen, managers will make better decisions, the thinking goes.

Like other InsightSoftware.com products, CAM utilizes a Windows interface that, it says, is fairly easy for most new users to learn. As long as a user can develop reports in Microsoft Excel, he should be proficient in CAM.

InsightSoftware.com, which recently changed its name from The GL Company, has two offices, one in Denver, Colorado, where the JD Edwards development team is based, and another in London, England, where the EBS software is developed.

The company has a reason for keeping a low profile. “If you have never heard of us before, it’s because we don’t waste money on mass advertising and working with ‘cool’ PR agencies,” the company says on its Web site. “Instead, we reinvest every dollar we make back into our people, products, and solutions to make them even better.” And while it may not work with the “cool” PR firms, it was recently voted a “cool” vendor by Gartner.
