  • PistolStar Touts Deployments of Password Software

    July 27, 2010 Alex Woodie

The folks at Masters Gallery Foods don’t have to worry about forgotten passwords as much now that the company has deployed PistolStar‘s Password Power software to govern access to its iSeries server. Masters was among four new customers the New Hampshire software company recently touted.

Masters Gallery Foods is a Wisconsin-based cheese packaging company. The 300-person company bags and ships all types of cheese products made by its suppliers, ranging from small 4 ounce retail “shreds” up to 640-pound blocks of American style cheese (plus soft Italian style cheese for industrial use).

Like many companies in the food business, Masters uses an iSeries-based inventory management system to keep track of its product. And like almost everybody on the planet, the company’s employees, evidently, had trouble remembering their passwords, because it recently deployed the Password Power product from PistolStar.

Password Power provides single sign-on capabilities to users working with a range of applications and platforms. The product utilizes Microsoft Active Directory and either the Kerberos or NTLN (NT LAN Manager) authentication protocol to streamline the sign-on process for end users while keeping security mechanisms in place. Plug-ins are available for IBM i (i5/OS and OS/400), Windows, Domino, Sametime, Oracle, PeopleSoft, and SAP environments, among others.

In Masters’ case, the company extended Password Power to its iSeries server, and also increased the functionality of its password quality plug-in for Active Directory, PistolStar says.

Another PistolStar customer, the Allianz Suisse, recently deployed a two-factor authentication system that uses smartcards and Password Power to streamline the sign-on process, the vendor says.
