  • BackOffice Unveils Cloud-Based Data Migration Tool

    September 7, 2010 Alex Woodie

BackOffice Associates recently introduced DataFactory, a collection of remotely accessed data quality and master data management tools and models for helping large-scale data migrations go smoothly. The new offering, which lives in the “cloud,” is designed to save customers money by eliminating the need to have tools and experts onsite.

DataFactory uses the same MDM and DQ tools and models that BackOffice has honed in hundreds of successful data migration projects over the years. But instead of placing tools and experts at the customer site, DataFactory taps the bulk of these resources over the network. This saves the customer money and gives them 24/7 access to offsite data migration experts. And it does all this without increasing risk, BackOffice claims.

The DataFactory idea was hatched following the fifth successful use of BackOffice data migration products and services by a Fortune 500 pharmaceutical and consumer health goods manufacturer, according to a recent article written by BackOffice co-founder, chairman, and CTO Tom Kennedy, in the insiderPROFILES publication, which targets SAP customers.

“…[O]nsite consultants worked hand in hand with offsite DataFactory consultants,” Kennedy writes. “These consultants were assigned to an onsite team lead who collaborated with the customer and process teams. The DataFactory resources augmented the team in the same manner as if they were an onsite team. The tools, methodology, and experts did not change.”

BackOffice’s data migration products and services are used often during ERP migrations and implementations. The company has models for all of the major ERP platforms, including SAP, Oracle E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft Enterprise, JD Edwards World and EnterpriseOne, and the various Infor products.

The company, which recently acquired the database replication specialist HiT Software, employs 350 and is based in South Harwich, Massachusetts.
