  • Get the Discount: COMMON Conference 2011

    December 6, 2010 Dan Burger

Anytime is the right time to demonstrate you’re a cost-conscious employee, right? And you can also explain the return on investment that improving IT skills provides, right? Put those two things together and make a case for early registration to the COMMON 2011 Annual Meeting and Exposition in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which occurs May 1 through 4.

If you get that registration accomplished by December 31, the savings is $400. That will buy a round trip airline ticket from just about anywhere in the continental United States.

The standard price (no early registration discount applied) for full conference registration is $1,695 for COMMON members and $1,895 for non members. This rate applies to individuals who reserve rooms in one of six hotels. That list includes the conference headquarter hotel, the Hilton Minneapolis, and five other options within walking distance of the Minneapolis Convention Center, where the conference and expo will be held. Staying in a “non conference hotel” bumps the registration price to $2,195.

COMMON has had its conference hotel discount policy for several years. It’s explained as necessary so that the organization can meet its contractual obligations and offset the costs of meeting space, exhibit hall rental, and other associated meeting costs. A minimum two-night stay is required to get the conference hotel registration rate. You can get the full registration and housing policy at this link.

The annual COMMON conference is the largest gathering of the IBM Power Systems user community. Its hallmark is the wide scope of educational sessions that include both IBM i and AIX topics presented in all-day pre-conference workshops, open labs, and regular-length sessions. Equally important are the social and networking events and the vendor expo that is expected to attract more than 80 exhibitors.

COMMON reported 1,150 attendees at its 2010 Annual Meeting and Exposition, which was held in Orlando, Florida.
